XC race fast, All-Mountain plush. The AS-R 5 was a natural evolution of the AS-R platform. With the AS-R 5 Yeti created a bike with the tight handling characteristics of a XC race bike and the plush suspension of an all mountain rig. At 4.75 lbs it’s light, lighter than many cross country racing frames on the market today but you have the versatility to ride all mountain. The heart of the frame is the Active Suspension(A.S.) design, soaking up the rough stuff and transferring power from the pedals without energy loss.

No longer will you need to sacrifice speed for versatility; the ASR 5 offers the tight, fast handling of an XC race bike with the plushness and versatility of an all mountain rig. At the heart of the frame is an Active Suspension (AS) design, soaking up the rough stuff and transferring power from the pedals to the rear wheel without a loss of energy. Up front the main triangle is constructed of hydroformed aluminum, giving it a stunning appearance while adding strength and stiffness at a very low weight. However front-end stiffness is just half the battle, that’s why Yeti engineers choose to fabricate the rear triangle using a blend of high and standard modulus carbon fiber. This allowed them to build a layup that keeps the wheel tracking as straight-as-an-arrow while maintaining lateral rigidity. And if needed or preferred the rear dropouts can convert from QR to thru axle (sold separately).

The Surly Troll defies logic and description. Is it a hardtail MTB? A commuter? A touring bike? A snow/sand bike? Well, yes. Surly designed it to be an incredibly versatile, 26″ wheel mountain bike, but it’s unlike most mountain bikes you’ve seen…
For starters it has clearance for massive tires (2.7″), unheard of in a hardtail frame. The sloping toptube with gusset provides plenty of standover clearance, even with the big rubber or a 100mm/4″ suspension fork fitted (a 4130 chromoly rigid matching fork is included with the frame).
- Full line guides for derailleur and brake housing
- Fender eyelets, rack mounts, and disc/rim brake mounts F+R (yes, you can use discs, fenders, and racks, all at the same time)
- Horizontal, rear-loading dropouts with a der. hanger allow you to run singlespeed or geared; offer a dedicated area for a Rohloff internally geared OEM2 hub axle, should you choose to use one, and threaded holes accept Surly’s trailer mounting nuts
- To build it up, you’ll need a 27.2mm post, 1 1/8″ threadless headset, 73mm BB, and 28.6 clamp style top pull front derailleur
- a special Surly caliper adapter is needed if you want to use a rear disc brake – it is included with the frame and handles up to a 6″ rotor (most common size)
